The Battered Bastards of Baseball, a new documentary that tells the story of the defunct ’70s independent baseball team Portland Mavericks, is now available to stream on Netflix.

The documentary tells the story of the team run by Kurt Russell’s dad Bing Russell and their unprecedented success challenging teams with Major League affiliations and shattering attendance records despite fielding a team pieced together from open public tryouts. The team played at Civic Stadium (now known as Providence Park and home to Major League Soccer’s Portland Timbers) from 1973 to 1977.

Russell’s son and actor Kurt Russell played on the team and features in the documentary, which debuted at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to rave reviews and plans for a dramatized account.
